Planning checks before you drive

RoadsCheck mountain passes, construction, sunset timing and realistic drive time, not only the map distance.
WeatherKeep a backup day for Kazbegi, Svaneti and other mountain routes where clouds or snow can change the plan.
VehicleMatch the car to the route: standard roads can be easy, but winter, gravel and high valleys need more margin.
StopsKeep only the stops that fit the route, parking, daylight and the driver’s energy. A shorter plan is usually better.

Best route logic

Start with 2-3 days in Tbilisi and Mtskheta, then add Kakheti, Kazbegi, Kutaisi and a western block. Choose Svaneti or Batumi by season and vehicle.

Where to keep buffer

Kazbegi and Svaneti depend on clouds, passes and road state. Keep 1-2 flexible days so the mountains are not wasted in bad weather.

How Tamada fits

Use ready routes as building blocks: Kakheti, the Georgian Military Road, Old Tbilisi and Svaneti. This makes replanning easier day by day.

FAQ

Is 14 days enough for Georgia?

It is enough for a strong first loop, not for every place in the country. Use 4-5 bases instead of trying to cover every region.

Do I need a 4x4 for 14 days?

If the route includes Svaneti, remote roads or winter mountains, a 4x4 is useful. For easier routes, a crossover is often enough.

Where should I start and end?

Tbilisi is the simplest start and end point. Flights through Kutaisi or Batumi can make a one-way route more efficient.
